Brooks Engineering Associates worked closely with prospective developers for the re-development of 21 acres in the historic river district of Asheville. Plans integrated the development of a river park with in-stream hydraulic jumps designed by a world renowned Colorado kayak course designer. The development plans had an outdoor recreation theme as a “mountain sports center” with prospective tenants all related to the river sports, mountain biking, and outdoor recreation industries. BEA’s staff worked extensively on garnering community support with multiple charettes and planning sessions with vested area stakeholders. Unfortunately the 2004 floods in the river district scuttled the plans and the development team had to release the contract despite extensive community and business support.
