Asheville Waste Paper Brownfields

Asheville Historic Riverfront
Environmental Site Assessment, Surveying, Land Planning
The subject site was on 20 acres in Asheville’s historic riverfront and was an industrial legacy dating back over 100 years. BEA entered the site in the NCDENR’s Brownfields Program with funding and oversight from the Land-of-Sky Regional Council’s Brownfields Initiative. BEA conducted the Phase I environmental assessment to assess the potential sources of contamination from the historical industrial uses. BEA then prepared the EPA Quality Assurance Project Plan for the field work to address the findings.

BEA prepared a land plan to illustrate uses for the various parcels. The plan depicted a mixed commercial use that minimized disturbance and impact from the more heavily contaminated areas. This minimized the remediation needed to implement the client’s vision for the re-development.
